Grab a heritage listed building, fill it with some of the most beautiful sports and classic cars in existence, and you pretty much have the Classic Throttle Shop. Located in North Sydney, I just had to stop in for a look when I was in the neighbourhood yesterday.
The Shop is actually located under the Harbour Bridge approach, and has nailed that balance between keeping the vibe of an old industrial space and modernising it and making it classy. The old freight elevator is a feature in itself. Of course the cars help a bit too! Pick of the bunch for me was the ’55 Jag D Type racecar replica. Pure sex on the outside, with a riveted aluminium floor and door trims inside was bare bones racecar. The ’49 Healey Silverstone and the ’54 Porsche 356 were very nice too. The Porsche was the first RHD Porsche sold in the UK, and has a decent race history to boot.
I’ve heard a few people make negative comments about the price tags the cars have, and yes they’re certainly not cheap. But they’re kind of missing the point. The Shop only sell the very best, and their target market would be folks who are prepared to pay a premium to get that. Good luck to em I say. I’ll never be able to afford anything there. But if you love to check out some classic cars like this, it’s worth a drop in. Why not grab a coffee while you’re there? I’m keen to get back and get some decent pics when my good camera is back in action.
